The Holy Grail

We serve
a god
who loves more our work

to responsibly take care
of the world that god created
the god expects us to serve

weak, hungry, naked, thirsty, broken
remain alert to respond
we must forget this

because there may come a time
when our ability to “do for god”
is torn from us

by health
or failure
or unforeseen catastrophe

It is in those hours that the god wants us
to remember that the god loves us
for what we do for said god

Once we call on the name
nothing: trouble or hardship or persecution
or famine or nakedness or danger or sword

Will ever again rest
lose sight of this unconditional love
hold on to that hope

When our labor is gone
the reason we exist
to be
