The quality vs. quantity debate isn’t just an oversimplification of a complex issue; it’s a dangerous shortcut. The answer to this, and to many other matters relating to a creative process, depends on just one thing: you.
Should you focus on creating a lot or on the results of what you create? Neither, because you should focus instead on being better. When you’re better, what you create becomes better too.
Sometimes that means building the habit of regularly making something (quantity). Sometimes that means working on the finished product (quality).
Do, instead, whichever that is which keeps you going.
So I guess in the end, the whole debate isn’t oversimplification but rather a complication of a simpler issue.
Simple doesn’t always mean easy.
